Jamiruddin, Akhter, Milon get bail

Former Speaker of the Parliament and BNP standing committee member Barrister Jamiruddin Sirkar and former Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiquei yesterday (January 19) secured anticipatory bail from the High Court for four months in a case filed by ACC.

The court at the same time issued a rule upon the government to explain within two weeks why they should not be granted permanent bail in the case.

A bench of the HC comprising Justice Shamim Hasnain and Justice Md Rezaul Hasan passed the order following their bail petition.

On January 16, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with the Sher-Bangla Nagar police station against four BNP leaders including the two.

In another case filed by police, former State Minister for Education and BNP leader Ehsanul Haque Milon got bail from the HC bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque.

The case was filed on January 27, 2006 with the Kachua police station.
