Give first class division two Jamaat leaders in jail: HC

The High Court yesterday directed the jail authorities to give first class division to detained Jamaat leaders Abdul Kader Mollah and Muhammad Kamaruzzaman in jail.

A bench of the HC of Justices Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Jahangir Hossain passed the order upon a Writ petition filed by the two leaders.

The petitioners' lawyers said, the jail authorities was supposed to give them division in jail as per rules but the authorities was inactive to do so.

Later, they filed the Writ challenging the inaction of the jail authorities and the HC on November 11 issued a rule in this regard.

After hearing on the rule, the HC yesterday passed the order directing to give the leaders first class division in jail considering their health, social and political status.

Barrister Abdur Razzak, Barrister Belayet Hossain, Barrisater Ehsan A Siddique, and Barrister Emran A Siddique and Advocate Shishir Muhammad Monir appeared for the petitioners while Assiatant Attoeney General Md Delwar Hossain stood for the government.
