Summon to Haji Selim's wife

BLHouse Report

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (January6) directed Gulshan Ara Begum, wife of Awami League leader Haji Selim, to surrender before the lower court in connection with assisting her husband in accumulating illegal wealth.

Following a petition of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), the three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque passed the order.

ACC filed a case against Gulshan Ara with the Lalbag police station on September 24, 2007 for assisting Haji Selin in earning Tk 10 crore illegally.

Special Judge's court April 27, 2008 sentenced her three years imprisonment in jail while the HC on September 15 of the same year stayed effectiveness of the sentence following a petition of Gulshan Ara.

ACC appealed with the Appellate Division against the HC order and the court of the Chamber Judge sent the matter to the full bench of the Appellate Division.

After hearing on the appeal, the Appellate Division passed the order. Advocate MA Aziz appeared in the court for ACC while Advocate Sufia Khatun for Gulshan Ara.
