HC declares Kings College at Segunbagicha illegal

The High Court yesterday declared establishing of Kings College at Segunbagicha in the city illegal, concerned lawyer said.

The court directed the King College authorities to vacant the college premises from Segunbagicha within six months.

A bench of the HC comprising Justice A H M Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain passed the judgment upon a Writ petition filed by nine persons, including AKM Jabbar Faruk.

They filed the Writ on July 4, 2010 against the establishment of the Kings College in Segunbagicha area.

Upon the Writ, the HC issued a rule on July 19 this year as to why establishing of Kings College at Segunbagicha should not be declared illegal, said the petitioner's lawyer Advocate Azizul Haque.

The Chairman of Cambrian School and College, Rajuk, Public Works Ministry, Environment Ministry, Law Ministry and the chairman of UCEP, among others, were respondents in the rule.

After hearing on the rule, the court yesterday passed the judgment making the rule absolute.
