The High Court yesterday (December 9) directed the government to reinstate 24 Sub-Inspectors, who were sent to force retirement in 2003, to their post.
A bench of the High Court comprising Justice Md Abdul Awal and Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan passed the order upon a writ petition filed by them.
Out of the 24 persons, age of six have already been expired. The court directed the government to pay the six persons all benefits including salary counting from the date of their forced retirement to that of their retirement age.
The 24 SIs joint their services in different times including 1974, 75, 76, 77 and 78.
They were terminated during the BNP-led alliance government in 2003.
Challenging the government decision to sack them from their services and sent them to force retirement, the SIs jointly filed the writ petition with the HC in August this year.
On August 22, the HC issued a four-week rule upon the government to explain why the decision should not be declared illegal. After holding hearing on the rule, the HC passed the judgment.
