HC summons Dhaka DC over Taher case

The High Court Division's bench of Justices AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain yesterday directed incumbent Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Mohibul Huq to physically appear before it today (Thursday) over the case of Col (Retd) Abu Taher trial.

The bench summoned the Dhaka DC to inform it whether was there any document of the trial, under which Abu Taher was hanged, at the DC office, Deputy Attorney General MK Rahman told journalists.

Jamiruddin, Akhter, Milon get bail

Former Speaker of the Parliament and BNP standing committee member Barrister Jamiruddin Sirkar and former Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiquei yesterday (January 19) secured anticipatory bail from the High Court for four months in a case filed by ACC.

SC asks to maintain status quo over Jatiya Press Club management

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the contesting parties to maintain the status quo over the pending election controversy at district court, apparently clearing the way for the newly elected body to continue the Jatiya Press Club management.

HC summons 3 cops for assaulting newsman

The High Court yesterday (January 19) directed three police officers of Goalando police camp in Rajbari to physically appear before it on January 26 for assaulting a journalist and threatening him to kill in crossfire.

A bench of the HC comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain summoned the police officers for explaining the incident.

A Dhaka court yesterday asked the jail authorities to appear before it on January 24 to explain why first class division was provided to former Motijheel police chief, an accused in Kamrul Islam Momin killing case.

Judge Mohammad Rezaul Islam of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 passed the order after Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) SM Rafiqul Islam submitted a petition challenging the legality of giving division to ex-officer-in-charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station AKM Rafiqul Islam in custody.

Press Club Election: HC order challenged

A petition was filed yesterday (January 18)  with the Supreme Court challenging a High Court order that allowed the newly elected managing committee of National Press Club (NPC) to take charge from its outgoing committee.

HC issues suo moto on ship scrapping

The High Court on Wednesday issued a suo moto rule directing the government to stop scrapping of ships in the country until further order following Tuesday's explosion at a ship-breaking yard in Chittagong that killed four people.


An HC division bench ordered the authorities concerned to relocate the exploded ship to a secured place and also issued a contempt of court rule against the owner of the shipyard.
