বিচারকদের অপসারণ ও জবাবদিহিতা নিশ্চিত করতে ৯৬ অনুচ্ছেদ পুনঃস্থাপন করে সংবিধান সংশোধনের পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন আইন মন্ত্রণালয় সম্পর্কিত সংসদীয় স্থায়ী কমিটির সভাপতি ও সংবিধান সংশোধন কমিটির কো-চেয়ারম্যান সুরঞ্জিত সেন গুপ্ত। শুক্রবার দুপুরে রাজধানীতে নিজ বাসভবনে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে তিনি এ পরামর্শ দেন।

SC lawyers protest sectorwise benches

The new High Court Division management system introduced by Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in disposing of the cases has led to severe unrest, agitation and anxiety among the lawyers belonging to both pro-government and pro-opposition groups.

The reconstituted HC Division with specific sector-wise jurisdiction has made the judicial procedures more complicated, impeding quick disposal of cases, further increasing the backlog and hampering the dispensation of justice at the apex court, said the SC lawyers.

While speaking as chief guest at a book launching ceremony at the Institute of Judicial Administration and Training in the capital on January 15, Chief Justice A.B.M. Khairul Haque said that a five-member committee comprised of senior judges of the High Court had been formed to identify corrupt people in the judiciary on the basis of the graft report of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

A tremendous pressure from some repatriated army officers had forced Ziaur Rahman to try and execute Colonel Abu Taher through a military tribunal in 1976, senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed told the High Court yesterday (January 20).

Col Taher was a victim of the conflict between the repatriated officials, who did not fight the Liberation War, and freedom fighters in the army, he also said.

Moudud was reading out excerpts from his book -- Democracy and the Challenge of Democracy -- as the court during the hearing on a writ petition asked him to make statement in connection with the trial of Taher.

Violence Against Minority: HC asks govt to place report on its measures

The High Court yesterday (January 20) directed the government to submit a report on the steps that the government has taken over the torture of and violence against minority people of Shailkupa in Jhenidah district to this court by January 26.

SC probe body: TIB report baseless

The Supreme Court Committee, formed to examine a recent TIB household survey report that spotted the Judiciary as top corrupt sector in the country, has submitted its report to the Chief Justice saying it baseless, SC sources said.

আরো এক বিচারপতি সম্পদের হিসাব জমা দিয়েছেন

সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আরো এক বিচারপতি সম্পদের হিসাব জমা দিয়েছেন। হাইকোর্ট বিভাগের বিচারপতি এ এফ এম আবদুর রহমান বৃহস্পতিবার প্রধান বিচারপতি এবিএম খায়রুল হকের কাছে তার সম্পদের হিসাব জমা দেন।

প্রধান বিচারপতির সচিব কবির আহমেদ শীর্ষ নিউজ ডটকমকে এ তথ্য জানান। প্রধান বিচারপতির আহ্বানে সাড়া দিয়ে এ নিয়ে ১২ বিচারপতি তাদের সম্পদের হিসাব জমা দিলেন।
প্রধান বিচারপতি গত ৩০ ডিসেম্বর রাষ্ট্রপতির কাছে তার সম্পদের হিসাব জমা দেন। এরপর ৩ জানুয়ারি প্রধান বিচারপতি ফুলকোর্ট সভায় সব বিচারপতিকে সম্পদের হিসাব দিতে বলেন। ওই আহ্বানে সাড়া দিয়ে সম্পদের হিসাব জমা দেন আপিল বিভাগের বিচারপতি এসকে সিনহা, হাইকোর্ট বিভাগের বিচারপতি খোন্দকার মূসা খালেদ, বিচারপতি মইনুল ইসলাম চৌধুরী, বিচারপতি সৈয়দ মো. জিয়াউল করিম, বিচারপতি মোহাম্মদ আনোয়ার উল হক, বিচারপতি সৈয়দ আবু কাওসার মো. দবিরুশ্বান, বিচারপতি শহীদুল ইসলাম, এ কে ফজলুর রহমান, শেখ আবদুল আওয়াল, সৌমেন্দ্র সরকার ও এস এম এমদাদুল হক ।
