Sayeedi not produced to court, allegation of ill motive

The Dhaka Central Jail authorities could not produce the detained the Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayeedi before the crimes tribunal due to his sickness yesterday.

The jail authorities earlier also expressed their failure to produce Sayeedi due to his illness.

However, Sayeedi's lawyer alleged of delaying proceedings of the trial intentionally, and of giving the plaintiffs opportunities to collect fake evidence and fulfill their lacking.

The three-member International Crimes Tribunal headed by its Chairman Justice Nizamul Huq in the morning directed to ensure Sayeedi's appearance before it on November 2, if necessary carrying on ambulance.

The Tribunal will hear a petition filed by the Prosecution seeking the court's warrant of arrest against Sayeedi and two separate petitions filed on behalf of Sayeedi not to issue arrest warrant against him and to allow him to assign his lawyers.

Sayeedi's lawyer also filed another petition yesterday against including the word "Delu' at the end of Sayeddi's full name saying that the word was added to his name in a ill motive. The court also hear this petition on the day.

The prosecution brought allegations against Sayeedi of committing crimes against humanity during 1971 war.

Earlier, the jail authorities could not produce Sayeedi before the court on September 22 due to his illness.

The Tribunal deferred the hearing on August 10 and 24 when he could not be produced before it for his illness and maintenance work at the court building respectively.

On August 4, the tribunal directed the prison authorities to produce Sayeedi on August 10 following the prosecution's petition.
