HC stays cases of Kh Delwar

The High Court yesterday stayed proceedings of three separate cases filed against BNP secretary general Khondker Delwar Hossain and BNP chairperson's advisor Shaukat Mahmud, who is also the president of the National Press Club.

The cases were filed in different courts by the ruling party men accusing both BNP leaders of making verbal threats against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

A division bench of the HC comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice M Enayetur Rahim ordered suspension of the proceedings of those cases for three months and issued rule upon the government as to why the cases should not be quashed.

The court pronounced the orders following separate petitions filed by the accused BNP leaders.

Earlier, three cases were filed against Khondker Delwar Hossain in Bogra, Chittagong and Sirajganj for threatening the Prime Minister in a public meeting at Muktangan on July 25 this year.

Shaukat Mahmud was sued for similar accusation made in a BNP grass root meeting in Cox's Bazar on March 20 this year.

Adv Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Barrister Nasir Uddin Asim stood for the both BNP leaders in the court.
