CJ committed contempt of court: SCBA alleged

BLHouse Report

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Khandker Mahbub Hossain on November 28alleged that the Chief Justice committed contempt of court through drawing attention of the High Court Division's judges by letter over granting anticipatory bail.

At a press briefing at the South Hall of SCBA building, the bar president alleged a dubious situation was created at the apex court as no HC bench but one was accepting bail application after the CJ's letter sent to the HC judges regarding bail.

Granting bail was solely jurisdiction of the benches each but the benches  were not accepting bail application due to the CJ's letter, Khandker Mahbub said.

The people of the country was depriving from justice for such situation in the Supreme Court and the lawyers were aggrieved, he said.

If the situation in the apex court continue, then country's judicial system would be broken down.

He said that in the Sirajganj train accident case, 30,000 unidentified people, many whom were not in the first information report (FIR), accused.

The court may grant bail as section 498 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

However, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told journalists that as per his knowledge, the CJ didn't sent any letter to the HC judges over anticipatory bail.
