War crime ICT directive sought to nab SQ Chowdhury

BLHouse Report

The war crimes investigation agency yesterday filed a petition with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) seeking its directive to arrest Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, an war crime accused and BNP leader.

Hearing on the petition is likely to be held on December 19, the Tribunal sources said.
The investigators filed the petition 'through the prosecutors' with the Registrar of the Tribunal.
After filing the petition, Chief Prosecutor Golam Arif Tipu disclosed two major reasons to the journalists for seeking the Tribunal's arrest warrant against SQ Chowdhury.

"An investigation into war crimes against SQ Chowdhury is going on. The witnesses, who already have brought allegations against Chowdhury for committing the crimes in Chittagong, are living under threats. For which, his arrest was sought," Tipu said.

Secondly SQ Chowdhury should be kept in custody as the probe against him could be obstructed if he remained out of jail, he said.

"Investigation into crimes against humanity allegedly committed by SQ Chowdhury is not complete, rather it is going on," he said, adding that we filed the petition along with the documents of evidences against Chowdhury

"We earlier visited Chittagong for conducting the probe," he said.

At Kundeswary of Raozan upazila in Chittagong, SQ Chowdhury killed Nutan Chandra, founder of herbal medicine factory 'Kundeshwari Oushadhalaya' during the Liberation War, Tipu said.

At Jagatmallopara and Unosattorpara of the port city, Chowdhury killed 38 and 69 persons respectively, he said.

'Good Hill' in Chittagong was the residence of SQ Chowdhury but it was made the main torture centre during the 1971 war, Tipu said.
